I bought this for my son for his birthday and he loves it.
The cars that are included are 4 Lightning McQueens [Stickers Racing Lightning, Dinoco Lightning, Radiator Springs Lightning with white walls, and Lightning with Von Dutch pin-striping], 2 Chick Hicks [regular and dinoco], 2 Maters [teal young and rusty old], Doc Hudson [as the Hudson Hornet], The King, Ramone, Guido, Luigi, and the 'Cars' versions of Buzz Lightyear and Woody [seen during the credits at the end of the movie]. The cars are die cast and are painted well.
The Maters aren't put together well and the towing rigs on the Maters are made of cheap plastic and lasted less than a week - so now the maters are pickup trucks...
Mack's trailer is not detachable. Mack does have lights and makes sounds when you touch a button on the top of his trailer. There is also a built in handle on top of the trailer.
I thought that I could just add to this collection and everything would match, but the cars are not in the 1:55 scale that are commonly available. These cars are slightly smaller than 1:55, but it's enough to make some of the cars you buy at 1:55 to not fit in the Mack carrying case correctly. It's also important for me personally to have a set that matches - I'm sure my son doesn't care, but I do. Check the customer pictures to find the one I upload with the scale issues highlighted.
If I could go back and do it over I would not buy this kit, I would buy individual cars from the Mattel line [they seem like they are constructed better], like this one: Disney Pixar Cars Movie Moments Sally & Cruisin' McQueen 1:55 Diecast Car Set or this Disney / Pixar CARS Movie 1:55 Die Cast Car with Lenticular Eyes Sheriff, and a Mack of 1:55 scale: Disney / Pixar CARS Movie 1:55 Die Cast Car Series 4 Race-O-Rama Exclusive Team Rust-Eze (Mack Hauler, Lightning McQueen and My Name is Not Chuck). I also recently saw a 1:55 scale Mack carrying case with detachable tralier that came with a couple of cars (including sally) at Toys 'r' Us the other day for $29.99.
